T-System Acquires Practice Management Associates

T-System's Market Expansion Will Marry Emergency Department Clinical Documentation to Revenue Cycle Management for Improved Financial Outcomes (January 11, 2012)

DALLAS, TX -- (Marketwire) -- 01/11/12 -- T-System, Inc., the industry leader in clinical, business and IT solutions for emergency medicine, today announced its acquisition of Practice Management Associates (PMA). Based in Williamsburg, Va., PMA is a privately held company that specializes in providing facility coding and professional coding and billing services for emergency departments (EDs). The acquisition signifies 15-year-old T-System's continued growth and investment in technology enabled solutions for emergency care.

T-System supports more than 40 percent of the nation's hospitals with gold-standard content that encourages complete documentation of the patient encounter to maximize reimbursement and decrease payer denials. Clinical documentation and medical coding are closely linked and are currently rife with much inefficiency and rework. Acquisition of the PMA business is a natural extension to T-System's offerings. It uniquely positions T-System to connect the upstream clinical documentation processes with downstream coding and billing processes.

PMA was founded by emergency medicine physician Brian Clare, M.D., FACEP, and has successfully improved the financial performance of its clients for the past 10 years. Recognized for its robust technology infrastructure, PMA is also known for its responsive customer service and advanced reporting and analytics solutions that give providers and hospitals visibility of all ED functions affecting cash flow, net cash, provider performance and more.

"Hospitals and providers are shouldering significant financial stress due to lost revenue and increasing costs," said Sunny Sanyal, T-System chief executive officer. "Looming industry changes such as ICD-10 will intensify these pressures and increase the need for solutions that dramatically improve revenue management capabilities. PMA will enable T-System to offer solutions that solve for potential revenue and productivity losses, eroding reimbursement and the impending coding staff shortage."

"PMA is thrilled to join forces with T-System," said Clare. "This is a natural fit because both companies were founded by practicing ED physicians and have a first-hand understanding of the ED's unique challenges. We look forward to sharing our passion for emergency medicine to deliver collaborative, end-to-end clinical and financial solutions."

Continued Sanyal, "The ED is a primary feeder of inpatient admissions. The PMA acquisition will help T-System ease the financial burdens facing our clients and support our mission to become their full-service business partner in the ED."
