SANTA CLARA, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 05/26/11 -- SocialNuggets today announced that its April 2011 Top20 U.S. Smartphone Index, derived from analyzing over one million social media conversations, named T-Mobile's G2X phone as the highest ranking smartphone followed by Apple iPhone 4 and HTC Thunderbolt. This is a surprising leap for T-Mobile's G2X, which was not even ranked in the Top 20 last month. SocialNuggets analytics attribute the phone's success to the fact that it was already released in Europe as LG Optimus 2X, gaining momentum as the first dual core handset before it entered the U.S.

iPhone 4 improves Net Perception and rises from Number 10 to Number 2 in SocialNuggets Index: The dramatic rise of the iPhone 4 was driven by an improvement in Net Perception from Number 20 in March to Number 15 in April. Apple can thank Verizon's launch of the iPhone 4 for this rise in positive public perception, as well as an upgrade to the iOS software and the availability of the white version. The 'rumor mill' regarding the next version of the iPhone 4 also contributed to the positive sentiment, which validates how a new product rumor can greatly influence the overall Net Perception score of existing products.
HTC Thunderbolt claims top Share of Voice (most talked about) position: The HTC Thunderbolt was once again the most talked about device throughout the month, but dropped to 3rd place in the April Index due to online negative sentiment after holding the Number 1 spot in March. The Blackberry Torch edged out the iPhone 4 to score second place in Share of Voice, but a lot of that voice was expressing dissatisfaction as indicated in these Infographics from April's Net Perception and Share of Voice charts.
Additional findings from SocialNuggets' April 2011 Top20 US Smartphone Index:
- The iPhone 5 and Palm Pre 3 entered the Top 20 in Share of Voice indicating strong buzz in advance of sales. SocialNuggets will follow the trends of these two phones as they ramp up to launch. These handsets will not be included in the SocialNuggets Index until they are launched.
- HTC maintains the highest number of smartphones in the Top20 from March 2011 Index, but goes from having nine phones in the list to just six.
- Samsung has made huge strides with six smartphones in Top20 index in April 2011.
