Syngenta Renews IT Infrastructure Services Agreement With HPHP Moves Global Agribusiness to Cloud Computing Platform, Fueling Product Innovation and Growth (December 13, 2011)
PALO ALTO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/13/11 -- Hewlett-Packard (Schweiz) GmbH today announced Syngenta Crop Protection AG, a Switzerland-based global agribusiness, has signed a seven-year infrastructure services agreement extending its long-term services relationship with HP (NYSE: HPQ).
With this agreement, Syngenta will move parts of its technology infrastructure to a private cloud computing environment using HP Cloud Computing Solutions supported from HP data centers. This will give the company secure processing capacity and real-time data access, allowing it to adjust quickly to changing business conditions at a predictable cost.
The new cloud model will allow Syngenta to operate a test environment in the cloud where new concepts are tested in research and development. It provides an environment with flexibility for expansion where Syngenta only pays for the compute capacity it consumes. This will enable researchers to quickly deploy the compute and storage capacity required to run complex and resource-hungry bioinformatics computations.
"Syngenta has embarked on a new era of productivity and innovation to help growers around the world," said Martin Walker, head of Business Services, Syngenta. "HP complements our global reach and we value HP's expertise in the latest technology innovation as a trusted infrastructure services supplier."
To protect Syngenta's data, HP will deliver a set of HP Security Services that provide comprehensive oversight of the private cloud environment in compliance with Syngenta's security policies and standards.
In addition, HP will deliver a tiered services model for Service Desk and Site Support Services to modernize the digital workplace, including computing devices such as desktop and notebook PCs and printers, for the company's 26,000 users spread across 90 countries. This includes virtual desktop as a service for about 5,000 users.
HP will deliver these infrastructure services from HP global delivery centers in Argentina, Bulgaria, China, India, the Philippines and Slovakia, which gives clients greater flexibility and cost efficiencies while minimizing risk.
"Companies like Syngenta need to be able to manage unpredictable factors driven by both economies and nature and therefore require a flexible and agile technology infrastructure," said Mike Nefkens, senior vice president and general manager, Enterprise Services - Europe, Middle East and Africa, HP. "HP combines industry knowledge and technology expertise with virtually unlimited compute power to fuel ambitious growth goals and enable the next level of innovation for Syngenta."
