Suspicious envelope sent to Blago prison in Colo.

Security raised at Blagojevich prison after envelope with white, powdery substance found By The Associated Press

LITTLETON, Colo. (AP) ' Security has been heightened at a suburban Denver prison where convicted Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich is being held after someone sent an envelope holding a white, powdery substance to the facility.

The envelope, addressed to an inmate, was discovered Monday during routine mail screening at the Federal Correctional Institution Englewood. Prison officials haven't said which inmate the letter was sent to.

In a statement, prison spokesman John Sell said the prison was secured and there was no public safety threat.

A hazardous materials team from the local fire department was called to the prison. Sell said local and federal law enforcement authorities have also been notified.

Blagojevich reported to the prison March 15 to begin serving a 14-year sentence.
