Supreme Storage Makeover Grant Contest Targets K-12 Schools That Struggle With File Sharing and Storage ChallengesGrant Winner Receives School Web Lockers' Subscription for One Year; Five Other Schools Will Earn Substantial Discounts on the Innovative Web-Based File Sharing and Storage Service (November 01, 2011)
SAN DIEGO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/01/11 -- K-12 school districts across the U.S. will have the chance to compete for an entire year's worth of free Web-based file sharing and storage for their teachers and students with today's launch of the School Web Lockers (www.schoolweblockers.com/) Supreme Storage Makeover Grant Contest.
In addition, five lucky schools will receive 50 percent discounts off their purchase of the "cloud"-based service, which is designed specifically to help K-12 schools overcome the daily challenges of storing, accessing and sharing electronic files.
The grant program announced by School Web Lockers calls for schools to provide a one-page proposal that describes their most pressing data storage challenges and how School Web Lockers can help. The essay must also explain how they plan to successfully implement the School Web Lockers software on campus. The deadline for submissions is 2 p.m. PST on Friday, December 16.
Entry forms and full contest details are available at http://www.schoolweblockers.com/brochure_contest_essay.aspx. Both current and prospective School Web Lockers customers are eligible to participate in the contest. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, January 3.
"Complex web pages and dazzling electronic presentations are abundant in many K-12 schools today, yet the seemingly simple task of storing a file on a server to be accessed later -- either from home or another location -- remains a frustrating challenge for students and teachers," says Kelly Smith, marketing and sales manager for School Web Lockers. "We're launching this grant contest to help out those schools that have experienced budget cuts or that simply haven't been able to take advantage of Web-based file sharing and storage to extend the reach of the classroom beyond the school day."
Offering easy 24/7 access to classroom data from any Internet location, School Web Lockers is an off-site, software-as-a-service platform that allows students and teachers to complete assignments while away from school, or to store and share school files electronically with ease. The software provides each user with a secure, password-protected Web locker, or digital drop box. Students and teachers can start their work on one computer at school, and then stash it in their web locker to finish at home or elsewhere. The software offers a calendar; folders categorized by class; teacher blogging capabilities; message boards; and other features to keep instructors organized and to improve communication.
With a single click, teachers can distribute an assignment to an entire class, giving them a quick and paperless way to share documents. Many School Web Lockers customers have reported that they've saved thousands of reams of paper each year -- not to mention hours upon hours of time -- through use of the platform.
Recently, School Web Lockers introduced a new DirectSave feature, which allows users to save directly to their locker without having to save the file locally first and then upload it via the web interface. Teachers are given 500MB of transfer via DirectSave every 30 days and students are given 250MB of transfer via DirectSave every 30 days.
School Web Lockers is not only priced affordably, at $1.00 per user per year, but it also offers unlimited data storage, giving students the ability to maintain a vast online portfolio of video projects, presentations and everyday assignments.
