REDWOOD CITY, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/24/11 -- Support.com (NASDAQ: SPRT), a leading provider of cloud-based technology services and software, today announced RapidStart, software that makes PCs start-up faster by identifying and eliminating common issues that cause long wait times. RapidStart, priced at $29.95 and available for download now, also provides continuous monitoring to maintain optimized start speeds. For those who want to do it themselves, RapidStart provides easy-to-understand recommendations, or it can be set to make automatic updates.
Common issues that slow down PC start times typically include having too many applications on the "Start" menu, a fragmented registry, or infections and viruses. After installation on a PC, many applications auto-register themselves into the Start menu, which over time increases a PC's Windows® start time.
Upon installation, RapidStart calculates the time it takes to start each process, and provides users with an optimization report that analyzes each startup item and classifies it into removable and non-removable categories based on relevance and impact on the computer's performance (for example, "iTunes® helper" is not required at start, but "explorer.exe" is). The RapidStart database of recommendations is based upon Support.com's exhaustive experience in remote computer repair and crowd-sourced recommendations from the RapidStart user community.
RapidStart can remove programs and processes automatically, or users can check the processes they want to delay until after start-up. RapidStart also provides an undo functionality to allow users to "go back" and restore a process they have removed or delayed.
