MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) ' A summary of action in the Alabama Legislature on Wednesday, a committee meeting day:


'House Constitution, Campaigns and Elections Committee discussed, but did not vote on a proposed constitutional amendment to allow display of the Ten Commandments in state buildings.

'House Commerce and Small Business Committee held a public hearing, but did not vote on a bill to give the state a uniform statewide regulation concerning fireworks.

'House Ways and Means-Education Committee approved a Senate-passed bill to give teachers $300 for classroom supplies. Goes to House.

'House Education Policy Committee passed a Senate -passed bill that would move the mandatory age for students to attend school from 7 to 6-years-old. Goes to House.

'Senate Finance and Taxation-Education Committee approved a state education budget. Goes to Senate.

'House Ways and Means-General Fund Committee approved a Senate-passed bill making a supplemental appropriation for prisons as well as funds for a woman who was wrongfully incarcerated. Goes to House.

'The Senate Education Committee amended that chamber's charter school bill to require more stringent reporting requirements. Goes to full Senate.

'The Senate Health Committee approved a measure to require the "morning after pill" be administered in the presence of a physician. Goes before full Senate.

'The Senate Health Committee OK'd a proposal to allow limited sales of baked goods, canned jellies and jams and dried herbs from home businesses. Goes to full Senate.


'House meets at 9 a.m. Thursday and Senate at 10 a.m.
