Successful First Year for SDL OpenExchange Recruiting 300 Developers and Surpassing 25,000 Downloads

SDL's Unique Open Platform Extends the User Experience of SDL Trados Studio and Other Leading Solutions (December 15, 2011)

MAIDENHEAD, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 12/15/11 -- SDL (LSE:SDL), the leading provider of Global Information Management solutions, is pleased to announce that SDL OpenExchange(TM), an industry-first platform where developers can deliver and promote SDL Trados?? Studio applications, is gaining significant traction among both developers and SDL Trados Studio users, just a year after its launch.

Celebrating its first birthday, SDL OpenExchange creates an on-going opportunity for developers to showcase their skills and enables users of SDL's market leading products such as SDL Trados Studio to leverage additional functionality as part of their existing solutions. To date, the open platform has 300 registered developers and has surpassed 25,000 application downloads. The application store for SDL Trados Studio offers innovative applications, most of which are available at no charge. With the recent release of SDL Trados Studio 2011, the applications have been updated for the latest version of this market leading product, providing even more flexibility to the SDL Trados product suite.

Marco Trombetti, CEO of Translated SRL, the company that has submitted the most downloaded 3rd party applications to date said, "SDL OpenExchange has given our company and our collaborative Translation Memory app "MyMemory" exposure to a worldwide audience that would not have been attainable without this open platform. We have been pleased with the opportunity to collaborate with SDL as part of SDL OpenExchange and believe this is a very significant initiative for the industry."

"We understand that users have different requirements from translation technology and SDL OpenExchange is enabling users to download plug-ins and apps to customize their technology suites, and is giving developers exposure to a new audience of users that can benefit from their work," said Mark Tapling, CEO for the SDL Language Technologies division. "This open platform is helping to increase the pace of innovation within the industry and expands the business value of existing solutions."

Developers interested in showcasing their applications can still take part in the SDL OpenExchange Developer competition which will be running until December 31, 2011. There are two competition categories: 1) entry for paid application downloads and 2) entry for free applications downloads.

Subject to competition rules, the developers will have the opportunity to win a prize of EUR 5,000 in each category.
