Streambox Integrates ACT-L3(TM) Software Encoder With AJA's Io Express Portable Audio and Video I/O Device

Combination of Io Express's Field Editing Capabilities and Streambox Encoder Provides Comprehensive Solution (September 10, 2010)
DMN Newswire--2010-9-10--Streambox today announced that it has integrated the Streambox(R) ACT-L3(TM) Software Encoder with AJA's Io Express portable audio and video I/O interface. The integration provides a low-cost yet comprehensive field newsgathering solution that enables news crews to capture and edit SDI HD and SD video via the Io Express, and then encode and stream the video files over low-bandwidth networks via the Streambox Software Encoder.

"Integration of our solution with AJA's lo Express means that our customers have an even more efficient and cost-effective means of acquiring high-quality video from the field without having to roll an SNG or ENG truck," said Bob Hildeman, chairman and CEO of Streambox. "The field editing capabilities of Io Express give news crews a powerful tool for shortening and streamlining their workflows for mobile video acquisition. Prior to transmitting via the ACT-L3 encoder, users can remove unnecessary video from prerecorded content, thereby reducing file uploading time for the finished video."

Running on a Mac(R) or PC laptop, the Streambox ACT-L3 Software Encoder enables mobile reporters to stream high-quality video over low data rate IP connections -- making it ideal for newsgathering from locations that might not be accessible by SNG/ENG vehicles. Io Express provides a simple plug-in solution that enables video/audio capture, editing, and video production input and output within a single easy-to-install and easy-to-operate box. With the Io Express, news crews can ingest SDI video directly to a laptop, on which they can use the editing tools of their choice (Io Express supports Apple(R) Final Cut Pro(R) and PC-based editing systems.) to prepare the video file for broadcast before it is streamed to the studio via the ACT-L3 software.

"We're pleased to work with Streambox to add a new dimension to the newsgathering benefits of our solutions and help our customers take advantage of the low cost, easy access, and ubiquity of IP networks for field video acquisition," said Nick Rashby, president, AJA Video Systems.

As an AJA OEM, Streambox will be selling the Io Express with the Streambox ACT-L3 Software Encoder as a complete solution for SDI-based field video capture and streaming.
