DVpro 5.0 targeted toward Flash designers By Dave Nagel
Strata today announced the forthcoming release of Strata DVpro 5, a desktop video editing system targeted specifically toward Web production. The new version focuses on Flash designers and developers, with support for the new Sorenson Spark codec.

Flash MX and the Flash 6 Player allow designers to include streaming media within a Flash presentation using the Spark codec. It allows QuickTime files to be embedded in an SWF file without the need for an external application.

Strata DVpro 5.0 allows for capturing, editing, enhancing and sharing digital videos and movies. It can export to Real Player, Macromedia Flash, MP3, AVI and any QuickTime codec.Other features will include:

  • Unlimited video layers
  • Unlimited audio layers
  • Unlimited MIDI tracks
  • Unlimited title tracks
  • Real-time previews
  • Preview clips in bin
  • FireWire, USB and analog support
  • Thirty-two more transitions than the current DVplus version
  • Twenty-one new filter effects.

DVpro is based upon Strata's VideoShop non-linear video editing system. The company has not said when the new version will be released or what it will cost. Currently, Strata DVplus 3.7 runs $295. A Mac-only free version called Strata DVbase will also be available. For more information, including a complete list of features, visit
