Stephen Arnold Music Completes 3 Major TV ProjectsCreates sonic branding and music for CNN, PBS TV and Comcast’s CN8 (June 17, 2004)
Stephen Arnold Music, widely regarded as the leading provider of original and syndicated music to the broadcasting industry, with its musical compositions heard daily in over 100-million American homes on 280 television stations and numerous broadcast and cable TV networks, has completed three major new television projects. The projects were for clients CNN Headline News, WETA/PBS, and Comcast’s CN8 Network. The announcement was made today by company founder/composer Stephen Arnold.
About The CNN Headline News Project:
Stephen Arnold Music created a new music promotion package for CNN Headline News. The new package is comprised of a series of original music promos using the “sonic brand” (musical signature) the company originally created for CNN Headline News in 2001
Stephen Arnold Music’s new music, which will debut on CNN Headline News later this month, was produced under the direction of the company’s clients JT Cantwell, Audio Design Director, CNN Post-Production, and Bill Galvin, VP, CNN Headline News. Stephen Arnold Music’s assignment was comprised of creating four new 30-second promos: one each for News, Business, Features/Entertainment, and Sports news stories. These promos will air on both CNN Headline News, and on CNN while promoting upcoming stories and reports that will later be featured on CNN Headline News.
Stephen Arnold wrote the music for the new promos, post-scoring the music to graphics created by CNN Art Director David Horslev and produced by Stephen Arnold Music’s Creative Director Chad Cook. Mixing was done by Stephen Arnold Music Staff Engineer Paul West. Several cuts feature the incorporation of French horns and brass. All of the new music promos were recorded at Stephen Arnold Music’s studios in Dallas.
"Stephen and his team took the time to understand our goals and then raised our signature sound to the next level," said Bill Galvin, vice president of programming for CNN Headline News. "The final product certainly conveys the sense of urgency and immediacy that we were looking for in our promos."
Added Mr. Arnold, “All of the new CNN Headline News promo themes have a separate and distinctive music style, but share the same ending musical signature. On CNN Headline News, music is a crucial part of the connection they have with their audience. In a typical hour, more than 300 pieces of information are offered either on-screen or by the news anchors. Their conscious use of music helps guide their viewers through all of that news-related information. CNN Headline News has the youngest demographics of any cable news network in the country, so the music we create for them is purposely very driving and contemporary.”
About The “Tucker Carlson: Unfiltered” Project:
Stephen Arnold Music has produced the original musical theme open, close and in-show interstitial musical segments for the new PBS TV series,
“Tucker Carlson: Unfiltered,” which will premiere on June 18th. Stephen Arnold Music’s clients for this project were Jeff Bieber, VP, News and Public Affairs Programming, and Eric Wagner, Senior Producer, both with WETA-TV. (NOTE: Stephen Arnold Music worked in tandem with Dallas-based Hothaus Design and its Creative Director Jon Fox on this project. Hothaus produced the graphics for this new show.)
Tucker Carlson, also co-host of the CNN series “Crossfire,” will anchor his new weekly series, intended to bring more conservative voices to PBS's public affairs lineup. WETA in Washington, D.C., is producing the new series. The half-hour show will be driven by news events and topics that interest Carlson, a print journalist who debates for the right on CNN's “Crossfire. Carlson has said that his interest in the new PBS show stemmed mainly from his dealings with execs at WETA and CPB.
Carlson hopes his PBS show will distinguish itself by booking provocative, irreverent guests. "Avoid boring, conventional people like death is what we are going to do," he said. "I'd rather have someone with a facial twitch with something interesting to say than the prettiest former federal prosecutor in all of Los Angeles."
About The Comcast CN8 Project:
Stephen Arnold Music also has produced music for a new on-air promo campaign for CN8, the Comcast Network. CN8, The Comcast Network (www.cn8.tv) has quickly become one of the nation's largest and most honored regional 24-hour diversified television networks - serving 6.2 million cable homes on the East Coast.
Produced in the Dallas-based studios of Stephen Arnold Music, the CN8 music package includes customized music for the network’s on-air promo campaign, which is slated to launch this summer. Stephen Arnold utilized a world music theme for the campaign, which is comprised of two :30 second spots that will be placed in rotation on the network.
Stephen Arnold Music’s client for this project was Larry Watzman, Vice President of Creative Services for CN8. Previously, the company teamed with Watzman for four other high profile CN8 campaigns, plus projects with FOX News and CNN.
