Stephen Arnold Music announces completion of two international music projects

Unique Audio Signatures Developed for Kuwait’s Al Watan and Trinidad’s C Television (December 18, 2007)
DMN Newswire--2007-12-18--Spanning oceans with the unifying quality of music, Stephen Arnold Music has completed two new projects incorporating international broadcasters. The award winning music production company recently delivered audio signature packages for Kuwait’s Al Watan and Trinidad’s C Television, each with its own strength in giving the broadcaster a unique sonic brand.

“These projects, which involved inherent language and location barriers, were both challenging and rewarding,” said Stephen Arnold. “Because we really had to experience each culture hands on in order to stay true to the pulse of the sound we were creating, we sent our team members to Kuwait and Trinidad to ‘live’ the cultures into the music.”

In developing the audio signature package for Al Watan, Stephen Arnold Music visited local Kuwaiti music studios and met with Kuwaiti musicians to study the various local instruments and rhythms. The goal was to get the music to reflect the channel’s commitment to contemporary Kuwaiti culture, while also finding ways to embrace its history. Launched in Fall 2007 with the brand new network, the resulting sonic brand incorporated traditional Bahri pearl diving rhythms and instruments such as the mirwas drums, oud, nay flute, riq, and dumbek, which offer continuity, local relevance and authenticity.

For Trinidad’s C Television, Stephen Arnold Music was asked to develop a branded music package for news programming and station IDs. With the objective of delivering a bold, contemporary sound that blended some orchestra with Trinidadian elements, the Stephen Arnold Music team looked to the history of Trinidad, the birthplace of calypso music and the steel pan drum.

“We brought in various musicians to overdub such instruments as the tabla, steel pan, talking drum and a wide variety of native percussions,” said Stephen Arnold Music Creative Director Chad Cook.

The end result is a unique blend of African, Caribbean and Indian styles and instruments that work together to convey C Television’s programming sensibilities.
