State rests in Va. Tech wrongful death trialState rests in wrongful death lawsuit that claims Va. Tech botched response to '07 killings
CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (AP) ' The defense has rested in a wrongful death civil suit that claims Virginia Tech officials botched their response to the 2007 gunman who killed 32 people on campus.
Attorneys for the state put their final witness on the stand Tuesday, calling a fraction of their 50 potential witnesses. The state is the lone defendant in the lawsuit, brought by the parents of two students killed in the April 16, 2007, campus shootings.
The state presented police and experts in campus security who said Tech administrators and police acted properly on the morning of April 16, when they concluded the first two shootings were domestic and did not pose a wider threat. That proved wrong.
The parents have said their daughters could have survived if a warning was issued earlier.
