StarGuide Digital Networks Secures Patent On Internet Video

Product to Enhance Distribution of Video Channels to the Edge of the Internet (July 25, 2001)
DG Systems, Inc. today announced that its StarGuide Digital Networks division, a provider of satellite transmission technology, was issued U.S. Patent No. 6,266,339, entitled "High Bandwidth Broadcast System Having Localized Multicast Access to Broadcast Content." This new patent is generally directed to systems that stream multiple channels of video through reserved bandwidth separate from two-way Internet traffic. StarGuide's CoolCast subsidiary utilizes this patented technology to ensure reliable and rapid delivery of video channels to select broadband Internet users while avoiding congestion caused by conventional two-way Internet traffic.

Matthew E. Devine, CEO of DG Systems, explained, "This is the eighteenth patent issued to DG's StarGuide division since the Company's inception. When considered in conjunction with our other content distribution and satellite receiving and routing patents, we are proud of our extensive intellectual property portfolio and feel that it is a significant asset to the Company as we continue to build our operating, financial and technical capabilities by providing an expanded and more powerful private network."

This is the fourth patent issued to StarGuide for its Internet edge delivery system technologies. Other key patents include U.S. Patent Nos. 6,262,982 and 6,101,180, and Australia Patent No. 727,421, all of the same title. StarGuide has also procured patents on components of its satellite edge distribution technologies, including U.S. Patent No. 6,160,797, entitled "Satellite Receiver/Router Apparatus, System, and Method of Use." StarGuide has additional U.S. and foreign patents pending and allowed on these or related technologies.
