Square Box Systems Release CatDV 4.1Major update to their CatDV media asset and logging tools (January 09, 2006)
CatDV 4.1 will import and catalog just about any kind of media file and will greatly enhance the productivity of anyone using an editing application such as Final Cut Pro or Avid Xpress DV. For example, users get the benefit of CatDV's advanced logging tools, including automatic scene detection and the Verbatim Logger, or they can create a network searchable repository of clips for sharing between editors and producers.
CatDV is available for Mac OS X and Windows, in both standalone and networked configurations.
This new version adds support for importing and exporting Final Cut Pro XML files, permitting seamless exchange of clip logging information and sequences between the CatDV database and Final Cut Pro browser window, complete with links to the media files with no need to reattach the media.
It also adds support for importing as well as exporting Avid ALE log files, extending an already impressive list of batch log and edit decision list file formats that are supported and simplifying the exchange of clip data in mixed editing environments.
Other changes include enhanced support of Exif metadata when cataloging still images, and user interface improvements, such as redesigned toolbar buttons and a new quick search text box to filter clips in the main window. This will be familiar to anyone who has used Apple iTunes or the Mac OS X Finder, and the emphasis has been on making CatDV 4.1 easier to use and quicker to get started with than ever before.
CatDV 4.1 is a free upgrade for existing users of CatDV 4.0, while the cost of CatDV 4.1 Professional Edition for new users is just $275. (CatDV 4.1 Standard Edition, a lower cost introductory version, is available also.) All prices are for online sales and are quoted in US$, excluding sales tax.
At the same time as releasing CatDV 4.1, Square Box Systems Ltd today also issued Live Capture Plus 1.0.4, a maintenance update to their DV capture solution for Mac OS X.
Live Capture Plus uses FireWire device control and patent-pending quality monitoring software to check for dropped frames and other errors during capture and will automatically rewind and retry if any capture glitches occur. Users can stick a DV tape in and leave it running under computer control, resulting a perfect capture of the entire tape - either ready for editing as a DV movie, or compressed to "preview" form so they have a permanent on-line record of their media to log and select material from.
