Sports Reaction Centers Neil Chasan Appointed to Seattle Rugby Club Board of Directors(January 07, 2013)
BELLEVUE, WA (PRWEB) January 07, 2013
In light of the realignment of the rugby league for the 2013 season, the Seattle Rugby Club, Old Puget Sound Beach, and the Seattle Breakers have merged as an entity to manage club rugby. With the new change, the Board of Directors has created a new medical committee on the Board, which Neil Chasan of Sports Reaction Center (SRC), a sports physical therapy clinic, will chair.
Rugby is currently the third fastest growing sport in the United States, according to USARugbyleague.com (1). With the growth of the sport, league officials and directors understand the importance of keeping all of their new players on the field. The purpose of the medical committee is to establish policies and procedures intended to keep the players safe and healthy.
The Sports Reaction Center provides practice and game coverage of all three teams, as well as the youth club, Eastside Lions senior teams. The Bellevue physical therapy clinic also provides concussion screening and treatment, bumps and bruises treatment, and rehab of injured players.
We take concussion management very seriously at SRC, commented Chasan. We look forward to the opportunity to help prevent and manage injuries, including concussion. We consider our concussion program to be the most important aspect of our work with the rugby team.
Chasan has extensive programs specifically designed to lower the risk of injury from concussions. Baseline testing is an ideal way to manage concussions. A battery of baseline tests includes gathering information on an athletes normal brain function, which can then be compared to post-concussion test results in order to determine when they can safely return to action.
SRC uses ImPACT(Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) and BESS (Balance Error Scoring Testing) to understand multiple measures of cognitive function. The clinic also performs tests, using the King Devick Test, an objective method of evaluating visual tracking and saccadic eye movements to measure visual information processing function of the brain while active.
To measure reaction time, SRC uses a technology called D2 by Dynavision, which is an evaluation tool for head injuries, concussions and visual field deficits. The Dynavision D2 Visuomotor with a Tachistoscope is the only system that is widely used by athletes for reactive/cognitive training and testing.
SRC works with competitive athletes every day who are involved in contact sports, such as rugby, soccer, football, lacrosse and basketball, as well as those involved in endurance sports, such as cross country, triathlons and marathons.
Chasan is looking forward to making positive changes for rugby players through his involvement on the medical committee.
