Spongebob Squarepants Movie Taps APM/SonotonComposer Gregor Narholz creates original score (November 17, 2004)
Associated Production Musics Sonoton composer Gregor Narholz, who created the original score for the Nickelodeon Movies/Paramount Pictures feature ?The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, spoke at a special advance screening last night, held in conjunction with a prominent film and television music industry conference.
To imbue the upcoming animated feature film with a sound similar to that of the series, Emmy-award winning music editor Nick Carr, who attended and is also responsible for the strips musical identity, enlisted Narholz because so many of his tracks from APMs Sonoton Library has already been used throughout the many ?SpongeBob SquarePants episodes.
?We use many of Gregors cues from the Sonoton Music Library in the television show, so bringing him in to score the film was a natural, said Carr.
Narholz conducted the ?SpongeBob scoring sessions, recorded in 5.1 surround sound, with a full orchestra at Londons prestigious Abbey Road Studios last month. The composer used all the latest high-technology tools, except for the standard orchestral notation, which he prefers to do long hand.
The film, in which SpongeBob SquarePants leaves the town of Bikini Bottom in order to track down King Neptune's stolen crown, will mark the Nickelodeon characters big screen debut this Friday.
This production also marks the major studio film debut of Narholz, who has composed and conducted original scores for numerous independent and foreign films and whose Sonoton library tracks have been used in productions ranging from ?Seinfeld, ?20/20, and ?Saturday Night Live to such projects as the Oliver Stone movie ?Nixon, and numerous others.
