Special Blend Gives City Explorer TV a Hot New Makeover

Design Studio Also Brands New Luxury Explorer TV Network (July 23, 2008)
DMN Newswire--2008-7-23--Following a months-long design and animation process, Special Blend has delivered new branding for City Explorer TV, the largest in-hotel visitor information television network in the United States. The branding, which includes a complete package of show opens, bumpers, interstitials and production elements, was designed with a new concept to contemporize the look of the channel and re-position it as a fun, hip and accessible source for information about travel and various lifestyle topics.

Additionally, Special Blend has created branding to support the launch of Luxury Explorer TV, Explorer TV's newest in-hotel network which is being made available exclusively to the top 100 luxury hotels in the United States. 

The concept for City Explorer TV's new brand was developed by Special Blend Creative Director Kathy Lajvardi. "We wanted a look that was clean, fresh and modern; something that connects with consumers today," explained Lajvardi. "As most people encounter the channel when they are traveling, we felt the brand should also reflect the energy and excitement of exploring a new city."

In order to draw viewers in, the branding also had to be polished and engaging enough to compete with other entertainment choices. "It had to stand on its own and compare favorably to what viewers see on top broadcast tv networks," said City Explorer TV Executive Producer Megan Rhoads. "And that's what Special Blend delivered—a look that is elegant and dynamic and supports the network's position as a source for insider information on the best attractions, arts, shopping, dining and nightlife."

The branding employs a crisp black, white and blue color palette and uses boldly animated lines and other graphical elements to draw the eye through 3-dimensional space and convey a sense of travel. Playing off the City Explorer TV logo, which features an exclamation point fashioned out of a stylized city skyline, glossy icons are used to introduce subject areas such as dining, shopping and attractions.

The branding for the new Luxury Explorer TV network is based on a similar concept, only geared toward a higher end demographic. Rather than graphical icons, the Luxury Explorer TV branding uses crisply stylish photography of luxury goods such as statuary and designer shoes.
