Soyo Announces Motherboard Support for the AMD Athlon XP

(October 31, 2001)
SOYO Computer, Inc. announced a BIOS upgrade to support AMDs new Athlon XP 1800+ microprocessors across a complete line of AMD-compatible motherboards.

Six SOYO motherboards, including the new K7V DRAGON-Plus with VIA KT266A chipset, are compatible with the AMD XP processor. SOYO customers can obtain a BIOS upgrade from SOYOs website at

SOYO motherboards that will support the AMD Athlon XP CPU with their compatible BIOS upgrade include: K7VTA PRO (BIOS ver. 2AA5); K7ADA (ver. 2BA2); K7VEM (ver. 2AA2); K7VEM+ (ver. 2AA2); K7V DRAGON (ver. 2AA3) and K7V DRAGON-Plus (ver. 2AA1).

SOYO customers are assured maximum performance and motherboard compatibility when upgrading to the AMD Athlon XP processor. The Athlon XP gives users up to a 25-percent performance boost over competitive processors across a broad base of real-world applications such as digital media, office productivity, and 3D gaming. SOYO has also tested the new processor with the Microsofts new Windows XP operating system.

AMD XP-compatibility coincides with SOYOs delivery of its DRAGON-Plus motherboard with VIA KT266A chipset. The DRAGON-Plus has an improved DDR memory controller, which boosts performance up to 48 percent, and includes many advanced features such as Smart Card PC/SC technology, RAID, overclocking features, and 10/100 Ethernet on-board. Earlier in October SOYO also announced its SY-K7ADA motherboard became the first boar to support the new UDMA 133 standard for high-speed data transfers at 133 MBs per second.
