Sonnet Releases OS X 10.2 PCI X Installer

Software allows older Power Macs to run Jaguar By Dave Nagel
Sonnet Technologies has released an update to its PCI X Installer. The software allows users to run Mac OS X on older Power Macintosh systems on PowerPC 604 chips. The new release brings support for Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar), which Apple is releasing tonight.

Sonnet says the new release "fully supports" Mac OS X 10.2 on Power Macintosh models from the 7500 to the 9600, as well as certain Mac clones. The software, according to Sonnet, provides the same level of compatibility that a user would see on a beige G3.

Sonnet also says that the software can be used in conjunction with the company's Crescendo/PCI processor upgrade cards to allow users to run specialized Apple software like iTunes and iMovie.

The software is available for download now for $29.95. A CD-ROM version sells for $39.95. The update is free for users of previous versions. For more information, visit
