Sonnet Debuts Tempo Serial ATA

Adapter brings Serial ATA to pre-G5 Mac systems By Dave Nagel
Sonnet Technologies has announced its Tempo Serial ATA, a PCI host adapter that brings Serial ATA capabilities to pre-G5 Mac systems. It's expected to ship this quarter for Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X.

Tempo Serial ATA connects to the PCI port of most PCI-based Mac systems. It offers 48-bit LBA support for drives larger than 137 GB, 1.5 Gbps throughput and compatibility with Mac OS 8 and higher. It also supports mirroring and striping in Mac OS X and also boots from any attached drive.

The new adapter support Macintosh models dating back to the 4400, 6400, 6500, 7200 and other from the era; several G3 models, including servers; all G4 models and G4 servers except the G4 Cube; several Performa models; and clones from Power Computing, Daystar, Umax, Mactell and Motorola. A complete list of supported machines is available on Sonnet's Web site.

The Tempo Serial ATA PCI host adapter will be available in the fourth quarter for $99.95. For more information, visit http://www.sonnettech.com.
