Sonic and Adaptec to Develop Entry-level DV Technology

(August 22, 2001)
Sonic Solutions and Adaptec, Inc. announced the development of a simple solution for consumers to view and share DV in which Adaptec will bundle Sonic's MyDVD authoring software with its 1394/FireWire and USB 2.0 complete solutions. Combining its leading I/O technology and Sonic's award-winning DVD recording software, the Adaptec and MyDVD product bundles will allow users to record their videos to DVD or CD and play them back on compatible DVD players and multimedia PCs.

The DVD-Video format is the fastest growing consumer electronics format in history. With over 30 million DVD set-top players and over 70 million DVD-equipped PCs in the market today, DVD is rapidly replacing tape as the video publishing format of choice for video professionals and video enthusiasts. DVD video closely approximates the quality of the DV digital video source and can more accurately convey that quality than standard analog VHS tape. Further, the DVD format offers a high degree of interactivity in the form of menu navigation, support for still images and slide shows, as well as high-resolution digital audio that make it a superior format for archiving, publishing and sharing digital video content.
