SoftCare Updates K4 Publishing System

New version adds template management By Dave Nagel
SoftCare today announced an update to its K4 Publishing System, an editorial system built around Adobe InDesign and InCopy. The new version, 4.2, adds support for updated versions of these two applications and also incorporates additional features, such as template management and job assignments. It's available now for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows.

According to SoftCare, the new K4 4.2 adds template management to its repertoire of features, allowing users to store and manage articles and layout templates within the K4 database. This feature includes support for full InDesign layout geometry, style sheet information and multiple text elements.

The new version also adds a new active workflow routing feature for job assignments to individual users or user groups. User groups are customizable and can be modified at any time.

The new version also adds a new search function via a query palette. It lists articles and layouts that correspond to a temporary or predefined query and maintains a filtered view of assignments. It also now supports InDesign 2.0.2 and InCopy 2.0.1.

The K4 Publishing System version 4.2 is available now for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows and supports mixed-platform environments. The server software runs on Mac OS X, Windows, Solaris and Linux. For more information, visit
