Snell & Wilcox Offers Free Kahuna Switcher TrainingSeries of free classes for users of the SD/HD Kahuna production switcher across the U.S. (August 08, 2005)
Moving to support users of the industry's most advanced switcher with the industry's most advanced training program, Snell & Wilcox today announced a series of free classes for users of the SD/HD Kahuna production switcher at locations throughout the United States.
"Technical directors are the people who make our Kahuna system work; they are as important as the pianist is to the piano," said Ken Schneider, Snell & Wilcox Kahuna program manager. "Giving our users the opportunity to learn, practice, and play on the Kahuna is essential, and we have created this training program to help operators make the most of this powerful and unique broadcast tool."
Snell & Wilcox Kahuna is the industry's first production switcher to feature simultaneous SD and HD operation in a single mainframe with a single control panel. Designed with input from technical directors in the United States and around the world, the new system combines the traditional control panel layout familiar to users with extraordinary new capabilities that enable the seamless integration of SD and HD material into the same program.
Thanks to Format Fusion, a Snell & Wilcox technology that enables SD sources to be seamlessly integrated into HD output without the need for upconversion, Kahuna allows operators to allocate mix/effects banks (M/Es) to either SD or HD sources, or to mix HD/SD sources together on a single M/E. The operational flexibility makes maximum use of all available M/Es by networking multiple control surfaces to different mainframes, allocating one mainframe to separate control panels, or to operating in SD or HD as required.
Classes have already been given in Burbank, Calif., and in New York City, with classes scheduled for Miami, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, and additional New York and Los Angeles sites. The next training session will be in Chicago on Sept. 21, with the choice of a morning or afternoon class. Interested TDs can contact Ken Schneider at firstname.lastname@example.org for more info or to reserve a place for the Chicago sessions and future events. The classes are free of charge for qualified technical directors.
In addition to local technical training opportunities and online resources, Snell & Wilcox supports Kahuna users with Kahuna Care, a multi-tier program that provides a preventative maintenance regime as well as offering services that address all the practical eventualities that might occur in the course of using a Kahuna production switcher.
