Snell & Wilcox Launches Alchemist Platinum

Next generation converter has HD option -- aimed at Post Production market (September 24, 2001)
Alchemist Platinum from Snell & Wilcox is the new breed of the company's standards conversion range. Introduced for the first time at IBC 2001, Alchemist Platinum addresses the ever-higher conversion quality criteria demanded by many broadcasters by being the world's first motion-compensated, frame-rate-converting upconverter.

Alchemist Ph.C technology is still considered the industry standard for high-end conversion. However, broadcasters are setting ever-higher picture quality standards and are too frequently burdened with imported material of poor quality. For that reason, Alchemist Platinum is introduced as the next logical step in high quality conversion.

A significant additional benefit of Alchemist Platinum is that it for the first time enables the high quality upconversion of European-originated programs.

Alchemist Platinum offers improved resolution, lower artifact levels and a noticeable improvement in picture fidelity. The unit also offers an option for HD conversion.

The new converter is the result of input from worldwide customers of Alchemist Ph.C.

According to Snell & Wilcox Chief Engineer Andy Major: "We have a policy of listening to our customers and using their input to continually move the benchmark forward. Alchemist Platinum incorporates those views in a new operating platform that provides a distinct improvement to what was already a virtually transparent conversion process."
