Small earthquake reported near central Ark. town

Magnitude 2.9 earthquake recorded near Quitman in central Arkansas By The Associated Press

QUITMAN, Ark. (AP) ' A small earthquake has been reported in an area of central Arkansas that has become prone to tremors.

The U.S. Geological Survey says a magnitude 2.9 quake was recorded Monday about three miles west-southwest of Quitman. A Cleburne County sheriff's dispatcher says the office received no reports of injuries or damage.

Four small temblors shook the area Nov. 4, the strongest of which had a magnitude 2.4. Six were reported in the area a week earlier.

Geologists say earthquakes with magnitudes of 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest felt by humans.
