(November 08, 2011)

SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/08/11 --

  • SkySQL demonstrates its commitment to delivering MySQL® solutions for the enterprise and cloud by enlisting industry leader David Douglas
  • SkySQL product strategy to benefit from Douglas' decades of experience and thought leadership in big data and the cloud

SkySQL, Inc., the first choice in affordable solutions for the MySQL® database in the enterprise and cloud, today announced that David Douglas, a recognized thought leader on big data and the cloud, has joined the company as a strategic advisor. He joins David Axmark, co-founder of MySQL AB, as an advisor to SkySQL.

Douglas' appointment corresponds with SkySQL's increased investment in product development, with a focus on big data and the cloud. As an advisor to the company, Douglas brings to SkySQL not only his knowledge of and experience with big data and the cloud, but also access to key industry partners and resources, as well as potential corporate customers.

"Having someone of David's caliber and experience as a strategic advisor is a tremendous boon to SkySQL's product strategy. His insight and guidance will be invaluable as we move forward with our plans to deliver new MySQL® solutions for the enterprise and cloud," said SkySQL CEO Ulf Sandberg. "We are thrilled by his appointment and look forward to having him as a key member of our team."

Douglas joins SkySQL having worked nearly his entire career in big data. Most recently vice president of Applied Minds, LLC, and chief executive officer of TouchTable, Douglas was previously senior vice president of cloud computing and chief sustainability officer at Sun Microsystems. At Sun, Douglas oversaw the company's cloud strategy and was a leader in the company's acquisition of MySQL AB, spearheading its integration after the close.

"My role in Sun's acquisition of MySQL enabled me to see the technology's widespread use and the overwhelming value it offers to today's cyber infrastructure," said Douglas. "The opportunities to innovate within the broader MySQL market are huge, and the expertise at SkySQL is ideally positioned."

Douglas' prior experience includes positions at ConnecTerra, BEA Systems and Thinking Machines, and he is currently on the board of the National Ecological Observatory Network.
