Sigma Design Introduces Online Meeting, Collaboration TooleZmeeting Allows up to 32 People, Supports Standard CAD Documents (November 05, 2001)
Known for its architectural CAD software used by companies like The Gap and Wal-Mart, Sigma Design is owned by Charlie White and Mort Olshan. Mr. Olshan is also part owner and a member of the board of directors for YankeeNets LLC, owners of the New York Yankees, New Jersey Nets and Devils sports franchises.
Three years in development, the company says eZmeeting is faster, easier and more interactive than any other online collaboration environment on the market. Return on investment is practically immediate given its ease of use and real time interactivity on virtually any type of information.
eZmeeting is effective on any type of internet connection (including 56K modem dial-ups) and can double as both an Internet and network communication environment for any Windows-based business network (with or without firewalls) including LANs, VPNs and WANs. It also supports a wide variety of file formats, including Microsoft Office documents, PDF files, popular digital camera and graphics formats, simple and complex 3D models, and industry standard CAD documents. Users can also take an instant screen shot of anything on their computer and then share the information with others in one click.
eZmeeting has a peer-to-peer architecture that allows individuals to bypass central servers and form direct person-to-person connections over the Internet and/or corporate networks and collaborate on the same information at the same time.
eZmeeting allows proprietary information to be shared and collaborated on in real time without the need for distributing copies of the original. Data never leaves its original location. Conference members collaborate directly on the computer where the data is stored. Users from multiple locations can view, react to and markup directly and safely on the original and see the changes and additions others make in real time. eZmeeting also gives users the capability of collaborating on multiple documents, all at once, from different locations.
eZmeeting has a host-in-control design, allowing collaboration without distributing copies of originals, also has far reaching security, privacy and storage benefits. Keeping conference documents at the computer and organization from which they originate, mark-ups and annotations made by conference members are saved on the host's computer with the original data in a single document. A user cannot download, copy, or print another user's shared file unless given permission. This not only ensures more secure and private collaboration, but also greatly reduces a user's exposure to computer viruses. In addition, because only a single copy is stored on one computer, unnecessary duplications are also avoided, freeing up a company's precious computing and data management resources that are already so taxed today.
eZmeeting is currently available for Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, Me, and XP. Two versions of the software are available: Standard ($99) for general business and consumers, and Professional, which includes CAD and 3D model capabilities ($199). eZmeeting is being offered free to schools and educational institutions for use in classrooms. Full-time students and educators can purchase the professional version for $20, a 90% discount. A fully functional 60-day trial version can be downloaded free at www.eZmeeting.com.
