Side Effects Software Announces Annual SIGGRAPH Event Plus Houdini 5 Preview

Side Effects Software announced its sgenda for the companyıs SIGGRAPH 2001 Houdini Meeting. WETA Digital LTD. will show their work on Lord of the Rings, Walt Disney Feature Animation will present clips from Fantasia 2000, Asylum Visual Effects will demonstrate effects work from an *NSYNC music video and Side Effects Software will preview HOUDINI 5.

The event will be held on Sunday, August 12, beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the Westin-Bonaventure Hotelıs San Jose Room, with a reception to follow. Advance registration confirmation is required for this no-charge event. Enrolment information must be submitted online at

Michael Perry, Effects Animator at WETA DIGITAL LTD., will present Houdiniıs crucial role in accomplishing demanding effects in one of the most anticipated films this year, LORD OF THE RINGS.
Jack Brooks, Senior Manager, Software, for WALT DISNEY FEATURE ANIMATION, will discuss their decision to globally integrate Houdini into the Disney production pipeline. Michael Kaschalk, 3D Effects Supervisor, will demonstrate Houdiniıs function in creating visually breathtaking work in FANTASIA 2000.

ASYLUM VISUAL EFFECTS maximizes Houdiniıs power and efficiency, enabling this growing shop to work effectively alongside the big Hollywood effects houses and studios. Asylumıs Houdini team will present some of the companyıs myriad of work including effects for MOULIN ROUGE and PEARL HARBOR, music videos for *NSYNC and JANET JACKSON, and several commercials.

The afternoon will begin with an overview demo of Houdini for industry professionals new to the softwareıs powerful procedural paradigm. The session will conclude with a preview of HOUDINI 5 as the next evolution of the software reaches new levels of usability for both artists and technical directors.
