Shorts International Launches ShortsHD(TM) Across U.S. With OmniBus Systems' iTX

(February 08, 2010)
DMN Newswire--2010-2-8--OmniBus Systems, the award-winning provider of comprehensive broadcast automation, content management and workflow solutions, today announced that Shorts International, the specialist short movie entertainment company, has launched its first U.S. channel, ShortsHD(TM), using the iTX transmission platform at Broadcast Facilities, Inc.'s Andrita Media Center in Los Angeles. ShortsHD is the high-definition version of ShortsTV(TM), the world's leading short movie service already broadcast in the U.K., France and Turkey, and is available to viewers across the U.S. via AT&T(TM) U-verse(SM) service.

"Our contract with AT&T came about rapidly, so it was great to have such a fast-moving team with OmniBus and Andrita that could respond quickly to our needs," said Leif Nelson, head of broadcast operations at Shorts International. "They were incredibly responsive, with OmniBus providing the interface for our London-based scheduling system into the iTX system in Los Angeles in such a short time frame, and at a lower cost and more efficiently than we could have done ourselves."

Schedules from Shorts' scheduling system are transferred from London to the iTX system at the Andrita Media Center via FTP, and content for the ShortsHD is transferred either by FTP or by hard disk. "ShortsHD has been on air since June 2009 and the system works really well," added Nelson. "The iTX platform provides functionality we don't have on our other channels in the U.K., France and Turkey, and we are continuing to work with OmniBus to create templates for adding extra graphic sophistication to the channel. Our U.K. service provider has wanted us to migrate to iTX for some time, and when Andrita offered us the chance, we saw that iTX was optimal for us, with all the functionality and reliability we needed."

Based in Los Angeles, the Andrita Media Center is a state-of-the-art high-definition media facility, fully equipped to go from live production to on-air distribution from within the same building. Andrita's full HD/SD production facility provides 24/7 network origination/playback/satellite uplinking. Andrita transmits more than 35 networks 24/7 including 5,000 hours of live programming per year via satellite and/or fiber.

With a roster of major-league users including ABC, AT&T, BBC, CNN, DIRECTV, and Turner, the all-software iTX platform drives large-scale, primetime broadcast service applications that require the ability to integrate into complex environments, provide exchange of data with the broadcaster's business and traffic systems, and respond instantly to input from a variety of sources. Approximately 1,000 channels of iTX are in operation around the world.
