Shockwave 3D Exporter Coming to Mac MayaPlugin will be free download
The company did reveal to us that it will release its Shockwave 3D exporter for the Mac version of Maya. Although the exporter might not be available right at the time of the launch, it will be soon after, according to the company. The exporter will be available as a free download.
The Maya Shockwave exporter on the PC side has a few special features that should be real crowd pleasers for the 3D Web development market, most notably:
- Error reporting for scene elements that won't translate into the Shockwave 3D format;
- A properties pane for easy access to information that will help with programming in Macromedia Director;
- And the ability to track changes in scenes so that only new or changed elements need to be rerendered each time.
Alias has also announced that it will work to bring Mental Ray into its arsenal of rendering tools. When asked whether the Mac OS X version will enjoy the same perk, a representative responded that the subject had not come up. I dutifully cast my vote in favor of bringing Mental Ray to Maya for Mac OS X. We'll bring you any updates as they happen.
