Shave 2.0 Ships for Cinema 4D

Update adds volumetric shading, memory efficiencies By Dave Nagel
Maxon is now shipping Shave and a Haircut 2.0, an update to the hair generation system from Joe Alter. The new version adds efficiencies and new rendering options and is available now for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows.

Shave and a Haircut is a plugin for generating hair and fur in 3D applications. Its effects are dynamic and react automatically to physical forces, such as momentum, wind and gravity. The 3D particle system can also be used to generate other effects, such as grass. Version 2.0 uses a new tiling system to cut down on memory usage (as low as 1/400 the previous amount of RAM required). Other new features include:

  • Volumetric shading for rendering in reflections and through transparent objects;
  • A new Post Composite option for cutting down on anti-aliasing;
  • a new Recomb option for faster hair styling;
  • Support for weighted HyperNURBS.

Shave and a Haircut 2.0 for Cinema 4D is available now for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows for $449. Upgrades from version 1 run $79. For more information, visit
