Sharp Debuts Notevision XG-C55X Projector

New model to offer 4,000 hour lamp life By Dave Nagel
Sharp has introduced a new model in its line of Notevision projectors. The new XG-C55X is an LCD-based projector offering up to 50 percent more lamp life than other Sharp models. It's expected to become available in August.

The new XG-C55X, weighing in at 11.2 pounds, is an enhanced version of the previous XG-C50X, which offers a resolution of 1,024 x 768 and a contrast ratio of 350:1. It also offers a brightness of 3,000 ANSI lumens. With a new low-power mode, the lamp life has been extended from 3,000 hours to 4,000 hours. Other features include:

  • Separate S-video and composite inputs and two separate RGB inputs with loopthrough capability;
  • Individual cooling system for each of the three LCD panels, lowering fan noise (34 dB) and increasing the panels' lifespan, according to Sharp;
  • A new lens system with three optional lenses;
  • New security features, as key code activation.

Sharp has not yet announced pricing for the new model. The previous XG-C50X sells for $6,195. For more information, visit
