Several hurt in fire at gas station near AK park

Several people injured in fire at gas station store near Alaska's Denali National Park By The Associated Press

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) ' Authorities say several people are injured in a blaze that engulfed a gas station convenience store near Alaska's Denali National Park.

State Trooper Sgt. Mike Roberts says crews suspect an explosion inside the store touched off the fire Sunday night in Cantwell.

The area around the station has been sealed off as a precaution in case of gasoline tank or propane tank explosion.

Roberts says the fire was still burning late Sunday night, but it was diminishing.

Several people were treated on the scene for minor burns, but two people were hospitalized with burns and another with head and back injuries from the initial blast.

Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported the high winds were causing problems for firefighters who are from three area departments.

Cantwell is located just outside the eastern boundary of Denali National Park and about 175 miles north of Anchorage.
