September Market Report: Laptop Users Happier to Spend Big Money on Storage, According to

Reviewers respond positively to Samsung and Dell's latest releases, which prioritise storage space and memory (October 11, 2011)

PARIS, FRANCE -- (Marketwire) -- 10/11/11 -- For laptop consumers and commentators, the market has shown a return to the golden rules of portable computers; classic 15" screen size, big memory and easy-to-use at-home advantages are priorities this month.

September marked the return of 15" PC laptops, as two of the biggest names in computing released new models - and the users of customer review and price comparison site responded warmly.

Released on 12th September, the Sony VAIO VPCEB2Z0E and the HP Pavilion DV6-6156EA both gained 5 star reviews from the website's active pool of users. Both offer up to 6GB of memory and use Windows 7 Professional or other editions. The Sony VAIO, called a '(b)rilliant laptop' by the reviewers, also carries Blu-ray Disc and Intel Core i5 processor; HP Pavilion offers up to 750GB hard-drive.

The popularity of these two quality laptops available on is a clear indication that consumers this autumn prefer practicality and high performance, valuing models for their everyday usability.

The other top models this month reinforced this market turn away from flashy extras and back towards prioritising the quality basics and bread-and-butter essentials of great portable computers.

Amongst the most favoured models, the Apple MacBook Pro and Air gained 5 star reviews, for reliability, usability and memory rather than its design.

And alongside the aforementioned Sony and HP Pavilion new models, it was another HP release - January's HP G56-106SA - which competed with the Macs for the consumer's top prize. This laptop had two glowing 5 star reviews - '100% recommended' by both users.

Reflecting on the results, Matt Hopkins from notes:

"Laptop manufacturers are still trying to compete with Apple's Mac range and it seems that HP may be getting close, until of course Apple release their next laptop models."
