Self Published Author Places as Finalists for "Best Books 2011" and Called a "Must Read"

(January 23, 2012)

Atlanta, GA, January 23, 2012 --(, the premier online magazine and review website for mainstream and independent publishing houses, announced the winners and finalists of The USA “BEST BOOKS 2011” Awards on November 1, 2011. Jeffrey Keen, President and CEO of USA Book News, said this year’s contest yielded an unprecedented number of entries, which were then narrowed down to over 500 winners and finalists.

Winners and finalists traversed the publishing landscape: Simon & Schuster, St. Martin’s Press, Random House, Penguin, Harper Collins, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, McGraw-Hill, John Wiley & Sons and hundreds of independent houses contributed to this year’s outstanding competition.

Self published, "Green Kitty" placed as one of six finalists in children's fiction for "Best Books 2011" even though it was written as an educational book.

Alexandra Faer Bryan, R. N., wrote "Green Kitty" as an aid for parents or grandparents to help explain dementia and Alzheimer's memory loss issues to children. It is aimed at the age group of 8-12 year olds and few books target that age group about this illness. She saw the need for this work when employed at an assisted living center and because of friends telling how upset their child was when their grandparent didn't recognize them. She hoped it would be a resource that would help to prepare children for the day that happens.

"A wonderful book for a child who spends time with a family member who has Alzheimer's. Entertaining and educational. A must-read! Author Alexandra Faer Bryan hit a home-run with this book!" - Sandy Spencer- blogger for "Free Alzheimer's Support"

"What I liked best about the 'Green Kitty' is that it shows how, despite the illness of Alzheimer’s disease, a strong bond can continue within the family. The book fosters respect and dignity for an elder, highlighting elder value irrespective of Alzheimer's disease and Dementia related losses. That, in itself, makes the book a good buy." -Carol Bradley Bursack- Author, Speaker, Columnist, Blogger for Minding Our Elders
