Search for serial killers' victims enters 2nd week

Authorities vow to search for Calif serial killers' victims for 'as long as it takes' By The Associated Press

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ' The tedious and grisly search for the remains of long-lost victims of two California serial killers will continue into a second week, as cadaver dogs were brought in to help searchers.

San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department officials and other searchers have extracted some 1,000 human remains from an old well near the farming town of Linden, about 12 miles east of Stockton.

Department spokesman Les Garcia said Friday authorities are using specially trained dogs to determine whether other nearby wells also contain human remains.

Searchers are pursuing information provided by Death Row inmate Wesley Shermantine, one of the two so-called "Speed Freak Killers" suspected of murdering as many as 20 people in the 1980s and 1990s.
