Seagate Consumer Electronics Expert to Speak at CES

Highlights Storage Enabling the Digital Home (December 20, 2004)

Seagate Technology, the world's number one provider of hard drives for consumer electronics, announced today that Pat O'Malley, senior vice president for Consumer Electronics Business Development, will deliver the keynote speech at the 2005 Storage Visions Conference at CES on Wednesday, January 5, 2005, at 8:00 a.m. at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

O'Malley's keynote will address the proliferation of hard drives in new everyday-everywhere applications, and the resulting challenges facing device makers and storage providers. Wide varieties of performance, reliability and packaging options are enabling these new markets, and the divergence of interfaces, form factors, spin speeds and other capabilities only continues to increase. O'Malley will discuss what designers and manufacturers must do to understand and take advantage of the opportunities afforded by these changing technologies.

This annual event is a venue for the discussion of critical technology and market issues for the implementation of a completely digital entertainment production and consumption industry. Hard drive and other storage manufacturers, consumer device manufacturers, storage system and software companies will gather to discuss how to integrate digital storage into consumer products such as cell phones, music and video players, home networking, and television set-top boxes.

The conference's in-depth sessions and panels will also feature industry leaders such as Avid, Turner Broadcasting, IBM Global Media and Entertainment, Intel, Microsoft, Scientific Atlanta, the MPAA, the Blu-ray Disc Association and many others. Attendees will hear the latest digital content buzz from industry leaders, and find out what's going on in the entertainment value chain and how those trends may affect the market.

Seagate hard drives are used by the world's top consumer electronics device makers. Seagate's 1-inch ST1 Series hard drive has taken the portable entertainment market by storm, providing the highest available capacity to handheld music players from leaders such as Creative, Dell, Olympus, Rio and Virgin. Seagate's DB35 Series hard drive with 400GB for DVRs, and Seagate's customizable external DVR storage solution, are designed to help make HDTV recording a reality. The DB35 Series hard drive offers the industry's largest available capacity for digital video entertainment, enabling new television services such as video on demand, high-definition DVRs, and home media centers. The DB35 Series drive delivers up to 10 simultaneous streams of TV and Seagate's unique new DVR toolkit to let manufacturers custom-tune the drive for optimal DVR performance.
