Scratch & See HD at Sundance and Slamdunk 2002

(January 11, 2002)
HD video is surfacing in some unlikely places at the Sundance Film Festival-and we don't mean in the theater. HD rebel and video editor Jon-9 will be in Park City, Utah pushing the limits of HD in live performances scheduled during the festival, using BOXX Technologies' HDBOXX to make it happen.

Jon-9 will be harnessing the power of HDBOXX, BOXX's award-winning nonlinear video editing and compositing solution for Windows 2000, to demonstrate for the first time publicly, live video scratching in high definition on plasma screens, video walls, and projection systems. By scratching the video in real time, 9 will be able to control the flow of images to match the flow of the music, similar to how a DJ scratches music. The events, which take place on January 13 and 14, respectively, are being held by Movieline magazine for "Wise Girls," a new feature film starring Mira Sorvino and Mariah Carey, and by The William Morris Agency to promote a new Mick Jagger film.

HDBOXX will also be on display January 16 and 17 at the Slamdunk Film Festival, an alternative showcase to Robert Redford's renowned Sundance Festival, in Park City, Utah. "Independent filmmakers are eager to embrace HD, but are often restricted by small budgets," says Rick Krause, president and CEO of BOXX, "Slamdunk offers an ideal way to expose independent filmmakers to new filmmaking technology such as HDBOXX, which is both affordable and revolutionary."
