Scopus CODICO E-90 MPEG-2 Encoder Now AvailableProvides high performance cost-effective encoding at regional head-ends (October 19, 2004)
Scopus Network Technologies, a leading manufacturer of digital compression technology to the cable and broadcasting industries, today announced that the company's CODICO E-90 MPEG-2 encoder, with its broadcast-quality video at low bit rates and competitive pricing, is available for cable TV head-ends, wireless cable, corporate broadcasting systems, and private networks.
Scopus took the same platform we use for our highest-performance encoders and adapted it to create the industry's best value in an entry-level encoder, said Carlo Basile, president of Scopus Americas. The quality of the E-90 is outstanding, and the unit is rich with a variety of output interfaces, while its price is at a level sure to attract regional head-ends as well as smaller scale network operators.
For video, the E-90 digital encoder accepts composite and component analog video inputs and provides the option for SDI input, with NTSC auto aspect ratio and 10-bit A/D. With simultaneous high-speed and low-speed data processing, it can output video at a rate of up to 8 Mbps. The system's 4:2:0 encoding profile allows real-time encoding at full D1 resolution through a variety of output interfaces such as ASI and IP. Its audio capabilities include up to two stereo or four mono channels with Dolby Digital (AC-3) 2.0 encoding and 5.1 pass-through.
With its DPI support, the E-90 incorporates digital cue tone insertion in compliance with the ANSI/SCTE 35 standard, which allows the splicing of MPEG-2 streams for digital program insertion. The system inserts tones into the output of the Scopus encoders that signal opportunities for content such as local advertising for injection into syndicated program streams.
The E-90's support for VBI processing in accordance with the ANSI/SCTE 21 standard gives it extensive capabilities in closed captioning, V-CHIP, and VITC. Its innovative cascading provides simple, low-cost implementation for local encoding without an external multiplexer, instead feeding each sequential encoder via ASI daisy chain. An innovative redundancy mechanism is provided in such a way that an encoder malfunction will not break the chain.
The E-90 provides all these features in one 19-inch rack-mountable enclosure with low power consumption and an optional 48V power supply. Learn more about Scopus' complete line of broadcasting and cable solutions at www.ScopusAmericas.com.
About Scopus Network Technologies
Scopus Network Technologies (www.scopus.net) provides MPEG-2 DVB and ATSC video distribution architectures that enable broadcasters, cable and satellite TV providers, and telco operators to transmit their content digitally. Built on more than 20 years in digital compression system development, Scopus solutions provide superior flexibility with exceptional performance at cost-effective prices. The CODICO product line of encoders, multiplexers, video gateways and professional receivers supports comprehensive, end-to-end digital compression for video and data distribution networks.
In 2003, Scopus introduced a new concept to the broadcasting industry the IVN (Intelligent Video Network). The IVN is a highly integrated, standardized system providing true scalability, high performance, and distributed and efficient network management. It allows operators to deploy a rich portfolio of video, voice, and data services and is a natural migration path from the traditional broadcast world to the on-demand world with full digital-to-digital processing in scalable deployments.
The company was the official supplier of the digital platform for the global broadcast of the 2002 World Cup. Scopus clients worldwide include satellite broadcasters, and cable TV and telco operators such as CBS Newspath (USA), CCTV (China), Deutsche Telecom (Europe), Doordarshan (India), EBU (Europe), FOX News (USA), GlobeCast (Europe), Korea Telecom (Korea), MTV Asia, MultiChoice (South Africa), NBC Olympics, RTRS (Russia), SKY, and others.
