Scharff Weisberg Lighting Supplies 7 Color Kinetics MX cove low-resolution LED Columns for MTV's Total Request LivePackage follows installation of LED wall (October 16, 2006)
?Scharff Weisberg added the MX cove lights, which can display RGB patterns, to scenic columns and put them behind architectural prism glass that spreads the light and serves as a surface for video display, explains set designer Tom Lenz. ?The columns are set against the Times Square windowed studio wall and controlled by the same Green Hippo Hippotizer Express system as the LED wall, but they can be run as separate units with the same or different video feeds.
At the same time Scharff Weisberg installed the new MX coves, the company performed maintenance on the original LED wall and configured it as a modular unit, which could be moved as needed.
The updated moving light package better meets the current needs of the popular ?TRL. ?Every year TRL increases their production by consistently adding performances and positions to light. The lighting needed to be flexible as the show. Our previous lighting inventory couldnt compete with what we required, and I needed more options, notes ?TRL lighting director Brad Nelson. The installation of Mac 700 spots gives Nelson ?a lot more output from compact lights and allows us to enhance the dramatic impact we can create.
Since programs shoot in the windowed studio during the day and night, the increased package also features a number of HMIs and Lekos, including HES studio beams, 1.2K ARRI compact HMI fresnels, 1.2K ARRI HMI compacts, ARRI HMI Pocket PAR sun-gun kits, ETC Source 4 36-degree 750-watt lights, Mini 10 500-watt lights, ETC Source 4 750-watt PARs.
?We like everything weve recieved from Scharff Weisberg, and the brand new lighting gear is unparalleled, says Nelson. ?Their customer service has really been great.
?Were very happy with everything, echoes Lenz. ?Scharff Weisberg helped us make the LED wall really work in the studio space.
Scharff Weisberg Lightings Chris McMeen added, "Scharff Weisberg Lighting was thrilled to implement a new and versatile lighting and LED system and weve enjoyed collaborating with TRL over the last year.
