SanDisk Launches Ultra II Flash Cards

CompactFlash, SD cards get read/write performance boost By Dave Nagel
SanDisk has announced two new lines of flash media, the Ultra II COmpactFlash and Ultra II SD. Both cards, according to SanDisk, see a dramatic increase in read/write performance. The CompactFlash versions are available now; the SD models will roll out in October and November.

According to SanDisk, the new Ultra II lines see a speed boost resulting in write speeds of 9 MB per second (minimum) and read speeds of 10 MB per second (minimum), which the company says are the fastest transfer speeds available. The cards are targeted toward mi-range and high-end digital cameras that require faster read/write speeds for high-resolution images.

The Ultra II CF cards are available now in capacities of 256 MB and 512 MB. A 1 GB version will be available within the next 30 days. They sell for $104.99, $209.99 and $429.99, respectively. The Ultra II SD cards will be available in capacities of 256 MB (October) and 512 MB (November). They'll sell for $129.99 and $289.99, respectively.
