SanDisk Intros New CompactFlash, SD Cards1 GB model gets improved performance
SanDisk's new 1 GB Ultra CompactFlash card offers a sustained write speed of 6 MB per second and a sustained read speed of 9 MB per second. According to the company, this makes the Ultra CompactFLash card the fastest Type I CompactFlash card on the market, twice as fast as SanDisk's current lineup of Ultra CompactFlash cards. The company has also updated its Ultra SD lineup for higher performance, offering sustained write speeds of 2.5 MB per second.
The new SanDisk Ultra CompactFlash cards will be available in the second quarter in capacities ranging from 128 MB to 1 GB with prices ranging from $59 to $329. The SanDisk Ultra SD card line will be available in capacities from 128 MB to 512 MB with prices ranging from $79 to $169, also in the second quarter.
The company has also introduced two new card lines: the Extreme CompactFlash and the Extreme SD. These cards offer the same performance as the new Ultra lines but are also designed to operate in a wider range of temperatures, from -25 degrees C to 85 degrees C. SanDisk Extreme CompactFlash will initially ship in capacities of 256 MB, 512 MB and 1 GB for $99, $189 and $379, respectively. SanDisk Extreme SD cards will be available in 256 MB and 512MB capacities for $109 and $219, respectively. Both will begin shipping in the second quarter.
