Samsung Surpasses One Million Sales Mark of LCD TVs

One million LCD TVs sold with its stunning ?8-Series? displays (February 15, 2006)

Samsung Electronics, a worldwide leader in LCD TV innovation, has achieved the remarkable feat of one million LCD TVs sold with its stunning ?8-Series displays a milestone for the flat panel TV market. This exceptional sales volume was achieved only one year after the 8-Series product line went into mass production in February 2005. Already a leader in mobile phone design with sales of over 10 million units of the SGH-E700 clamshell camera phone and SGH-D500 slider camera phone, Samsung has now added to its line-up of best-selling products with the sales of its first million-unit-selling digital TV.

Reaching this outstanding mark illustrates Samsungs dedication to technological quality, innovation and affordability, as well as its saturation of the LCD TV market. According to iSuppli, the global market for LCD TVs exceeded 19.6 million units in 2005. Out of every 20 units sold worldwide, one was a Samsung 8 Series LCD TV.

?Samsung is elated to see its award-winning ?8 Series LCD TVs surpass the one million-units-sold mark, said John Revie, Vice President for the Visual Display Products Group. ?This global accomplishment reaffirms Samsungs place as a pioneer of superior design, quality and affordability in consumer electronics.

In the U.S., Samsungs ?8 Series LCD TVs include the 23 LN-R238W, 26 LN-R268W, the 32 LN-R328W and the 40 LN-R408D. All are feature-rich LCD TVs designed to complement and enhance every aspect of the home theater experience. Recognizing the necessity for style as well as substance, Samsungs designers engineered a sleek, graceful and modern television the perfect showpiece for the fashionable interior. The bottom half of the sets gently slope to form a ?V, differentiating it immediately from other LCD TVs.  Slim speakers are inconspicuously mounted on the lower part of the TVs as part of the ?V-shaped motif.

The ?8 Series features Samsung's proprietary Patterned Vertical Alignment (PVA) technology screen for a contrast ratio of 3,000:1. This innovation translates to brighter whites, deeper blacks and truer reproduction of every shade in between than previous models. Samsung's Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe) optimizes motion, contrast, color and detail for exceptional image clarity and picture resolution. The widescreen LCDs feature a 170-degree horizontal and vertical viewing angle, allowing an optimal viewing experience from practically any seat in the room. Additionally, a high definition multimedia interface (HDMI) allows simple cable connection with HD signal devices. Due to its enhanced look, the 8 Series was recognized for its innovative design receiving the prestigious IF Design Award in 2005.
