Samsung Powers Pure Digital's Recyclable Digital Cameras

Alliance Opens 450-Million-Unit Category to Digital Offerings (January 27, 2006)

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, and Pure Digital Technologies, the leader in single-use digital cameras, today announced that Samsung Flash and DRAM memories are core elements in the first single-use digital still camera (DSC) and single-use digital video camcorder in the United States.

Pure Digital Technologies estimates that the worldwide market for single-use still cameras is approximately 450 million units annually. In addition, the company's new single-use video camcorder is creating a product category with the potential of tens of millions of units. Each Pure Digital consumer product offering is being powered by Samsung memory.

The single-use video camcorder from Pure Digital uses one gigabit of NAND Flash for permanent video clip storage and 256 megabits (Mb) of DRAM (dynamic random access memory) for fast video processing during filming. In its DSC, Pure Digital is now using 256 Mb of NAND Flash for permanent snapshot storage and 16 Mb of DRAM for temporary storage when the camera is in use

The new, affordable single use cameras and video camcorders developed by Pure Digital Technologies are being marketed under individual retail store brands and are currently available at more than 8,000 CVS/pharmacy, Ritz and Wolf Camera Centers, Longs Drugs and Rite Aid stores across the United States, with additional expansion expected through other major U.S. retail chains.
