Samsung Offers High-Speed Twin Tray DVD RecorderThe affordable DVD-TR520 can record a two-hour DVD in 20 minutes (September 01, 2005)
Samsung, a worldwide innovator of DVD technology, is reinvigorating the DVD-recording category with the introduction of the DVD-TR520, the industry's first sub-$500 twin-tray DVD recorder. Samsung's latest innovation offers consumers the fastest dual-deck DVD recorder available on the market today, allowing disc-to-disc copying at 2X, 4X and up to 6X speeds. With its ability to copy a two-hour disc in as little as 20 minutes, its host of advanced programming features, and its one-touch ease-of-use, the DVD-TR520 is ideal for consumers looking to easily share recorded memories with their friends and family almost instantly.
"Samsung is continuously working to develop solutions that improve the consumer experience for sharing and storing memories. The introduction of the DVD-TR520 is a reaffirmation of our commitment to these consumers and offers them the fastest and most affordable dual-deck DVD recorder on the market today," says Claude Frank, Samsung Electronics America's Director for Digital Audio/Video. "Dual-disc DVD recording is currently available in the professional market at a cost of thousands of dollars. Our goal to become the first Consumer Electronics manufacturer to introduce a faster, mass market product at a sub-$500 price-point was an accomplishment we were extremely proud to achieve."
With two DVD trays, the multi-format DVD-TR520 allows users to copy directly from disc to disc at speeds of 2x for -RAM to RAM, 4x for -RW to -RW and up to 6X for -R to -R. Samsung's twin-tray recorder uses multi-format technology that allows flexibility in the face of competing recording formats. DVD-R's non-contact optical pick-up allows each disc to be scratch-free for repeated use, and it can adapt to DVD-RW for playback on other players. It also allows for a mixed storage of video, audio and additional types of data from PC and AV products.
Its uncomplicated design allows copies to be made at the push of a button. For duplicating copies the user will be prompted with two questions and will begin recording once a selection is made. An onscreen progress gauge will come up, that includes the auto fit recording function, which enables the recorder to automatically detect the remaining disc space to set up the best recording mode. Once 100% is met, the disc is ready to play in most DVD Players.
The DVD-TR520 also features simple to use menus, a digital-to-digital interface which provides superb picture quality and an intuitive GUI (graphic user interface) for easy navigation. The unit comes with a front DV input for convenient transfer of camcorder footage via one cable, and an auto chapter creator that gives the recorder the ability to create chapters from recorded content onto a disc. A recording timer allows users to set the date and time to record their favorite TV shows.
The DVD-TR520 will be available in late September for a $449.99 MAP
