Samsung's Digimax i5 Digital Camera
With millions of dollars invested in its design, the Digimax i5 is the end result of the collaborative efforts of a strong and dedicated R&D team. The credit card sized i5 is the first camera to bring internal zoom capability to Samsung Camera and is the most slim the company has launched to date. Its stylish stainless body will not scratch or tarnish and its ultra-slim form factor combined with a host of enhanced capabilities, is sure to satisfy those whose focus is on function and style.
The Digimax i5 achieves outstanding image quality by integrating its 3x optical zoom (equivalent to 39-117 mm in 35 mm format) capability with Samsung Camera's exclusive SHD lens technology, recognized throughout the world. When combined with its 5x digital zoom, users will have a total zoom of 15x, right in the palm of their hand. With a 5 mega pixel CCD image sensor that utilizes primary color filtering technology, the i5 provides excellent sensitivity and color reproduction and can be used to capture clear, crisp images as well as for shooting text for printing.
Even with pocket-sized dimensions of 3.5(L)x 2.4(H) x 0.68(W) the Digimax i5 is still able to pack a huge 2.5" high resolution color LCD with improved contrast and color reproduction, allowing you to enjoy a wider and clearer image. For even more style and flare, the Digimax i5 also comes in four different colors; silver, black, red and grey.
The Digimax i5 is equipped with Samsung's state-of-the-art Safety Flash (SF) capability. The SF function provides enhanced image clarity and color in environments lacking sufficient lighting where the use of a flash is not desirable. Easily accessed by a clearly identified SF button on the top of the camera, the unique technology uses proprietary algorithms to interpret sharpness and color information to deliver an image that looks like it has been taken with the flash. As the flash is disabled, side effects, such as red eye, are prevented.
The Digimax i5 supports MPEG-4 video technology; the high-compression and high-quality video format that provides an enhanced video shooting experience. When used with a 256 MB SD card, the user can shoot 2 hours and 10 minutes of VGA video with sound, at up to 30 frames per second. For even more control, shooters can utilize the camera's 3x optical zoom while recording.
The Digimax i5 also has a movie stabilizer function, maintaining steady recording of a subject by means of automatic detection and correction of minor lateral and vertical camera movement. The camera also provides a continuous video recording function that allows the user to pause and resume video recording at any time as well as a built-in movie editing function that allows the user to edit movie clips on the camera itself.
The new Digimax i5 flexible charging system allows the user to perform charging and data transfer with ease. The camera can be charged in 4 different ways, ensuring that power will never be an issue. In addition, the Digimax i5 comes with a cradle to enable even easier charging and image transfer.
The Digimax i5 provides an M button for fast and easy mode switching between Auto, Manual and Scene Modes. When set to Auto Mode, the Digimax i5 automatically adjusts the shooting distance and focus from between 5 cm to infinity, helping the shooter effortlessly take better pictures. Also, when in Auto Mode, the user does not need to activate the macro function separately in order to take pictures as close as 5cm. Furthermore, the i5's super macro function enables subjects to be photographed up to as close as 1 cm.
Users can also take advantage of the various photographic effects the i5 provides. The camera features four different special effect modes, including Color, Photo Frame, Highlight and Composite. The Color effect includes red, blue and green in addition to sepia, negative and black and white. Highlight enables shooters to emphasize a subject by putting its surroundings into soft focus. This is made possible using digital processing within the cameras. With Composite, users have the ability to divide a shooting scene into 2-4 segments and save it as a single file, while Photo Frame allows users to add a frame to an existing image.
The Digimax i5 also features various scene modes, helping the shooter obtain the best image quality in a variety of settings. Scene modes provided include Night Scene, Portrait, Children, Landscape, Text Recognition, Sunset, Dawn, Backlight, Fireworks, Beach and Snow. In particular, Text mode extends the cameras application potential. The user can shoot documents such as books, papers and magazines and then extract text from the images taken using the bundled text recognition software.
