Samsung 56 Inch HDTV Wins Best of CES Award

Introduces the HL-S5679W (January 13, 2006)

Samsung, a world leader in HDTV display technology and innovation, is a CNET "Best of CES" Award winner for its 56" HL-S5679W DLP TV in the HDTV Category. DLP HDTVs utilizing an LED light sourced engine will be introduced to the market for the first time in 2006, and Samsung's HL-S5679W will lead the charge with its brand and technology leadership and innovation. The Best of CES Awards were produced and judged by CNET, who announced the winners Saturday, January 7, at the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

Selected by CNET's unbiased, expert editors, Best of CES winners were recognized as the hottest products in their respective technology categories for their unmatched innovation and creativity, and their ability to excite consumers and make their way into everyday life.  CNET's editors received and reviewed hundreds of entries, and combed the CES show floor for products to consider for the prestigious award.

The Samsung HL-S5679W's LED light source engine offers a host of benefits, including significantly improved longevity, increased color gamut reproduction, quicker turn-on time, and greater environmental friendliness. The high-powered LED light source replaces the current UHP bulb. The LED light sourced single chip DLP light engine does not require a color wheel and provides improved longevity.  Red, green and blue LEDs sequentially fire to produce smooth, stable color. The new light engine provides a longer lamp life (up to 20,000 hours) and a shorter turn-on time (approximately 7 seconds). The engine is also mercury-free making it more environmentally friendly.

"Samsung is honored to receive this prestigious accolade from CNET, the most reliable news source of technology information, during our biggest industry and technology show of the year, "said Dan Schinasi, Senior Marketing Manager for Projection TV for Samsung Electronics America. "Samsung's HL-S5679W once again demonstrates our commitment to advancing the boundaries of technology innovation and design excellence in our HDTV products."

"By winning a CNET Best of CES Award, Samsung's HL-S5679W sets a standard within their sector for others to follow," said Brian Cooley, editor at large at CNET.com.  "Each year at CES, CNET scours the show floor to bring extensive coverage to our passionate community of consumers, who look to our editors for the best new products at the show, and Samsung's HL-S5679W is without doubt one of the hottest products at CES 2006."

The 12 Best of CES categories included car tech; cell phones, smart phones, and PDAs; computers; digital photo and video; gaming; home audio; home video; MP3 and portable video; monitors, printers, burners, and storage; networking; TVs; and emerging technologies.  A Best in Show winner was also named, and CNET's online community of tech enthusiasts voted for the People's Voice winner.  Videos of the winners and finalists showcasing their technologies can be found at http://ces.cnet.com.

The HL-S5679W will be available in May 2006 at MSRP $4,199.
