STLEdit 2.0 Released(August 29, 2005)
For all those people involved in the art of subtitling and closed captioning, the newly released STLEdit (version 2) will be a step up and improvement to the often tedious and error prone process of subtitling. This OS X application puts a new spin on the process of subtitling creation and editing; using a document centric model that allows editors to view and define subtitles as they should be - as whole documents - and allowing the assignment of attributes to control layout, format etc and of course more importantly, assigning timecodes either on a line-by-line basis or section-by-section basis.
This natural approach to subtitling editing is breaking with the subtitling tradition of line-by-line editing; providing a fast and efficient approach to the process.
STLEdit uses XML to store the format and frame-rate independent documents; allowing the editor to export to the required subtitling format with the desired frame-rate. The application supports many subtitling and closed captioning formats including STL, SCC (line 21 captions), EBU (European subtitling format), Quicktime text.
STLEdit is an ideal companion product to Apple's Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro, allowing editors quickly generate STL and SCC (line 21) closed captioning files, import them into DVD SP projects and provide quick error resolution and navigation to the cryptic error line numbers generated when parsing STL or SCC files. Layout and formatting control is easily done using preview panels that allow the exact control and preview of both STL and SCC formats.
