STACK Media Launches Educational Military Site: STACK Basic Training

(January 05, 2012)

NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 01/05/12 -- On the heels of launching STACK 4W, STACK Varsity and STACK Gamer, STACK Media, Inc. is unveiling STACK Basic Training (basictraining.stack.com), a website delivering quality information and advice on workouts and training, leadership skills and problem solving -- straight from some of the highest ranking soldiers in the United States military.

Providing the latest news and information from all branches of the Armed Forces -- Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and Army National Guard -- STACK Basic Training is the ultimate destination for athletes checking out military options, seeking college scholarship assistance and exploring career choices -- and for anyone looking to develop leadership skills and mental toughness to enhance their athletic résumés.

As part of the launch, STACK Basic Training is showcasing a STACK video series produced for the Army National Guard, a site sponsor and the company's official launch partner, supporting the military's efforts to find and educate quality recruits.

Forty-four percent of STACK's audience is interested in learning more about what the military has to offer. The new site is a way for the services to communicate with this audience, many of whom are potential recruits. Each year the military discharges over 1,200 first-term enlistees due to weight problems; and 75% of 17-to-24-year-olds in the U.S. cannot meet the minimum standard required for service, mainly due to obesity.

Carl Mehlhope, STACK's Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing, said, "The idea for creating STACK Basic Training came from a combination of our audience wanting to learn more about opportunities offered by the military and discussions with military personnel, who told us about their difficulty in finding fit recruits. We really appreciate the support the Army National Guard has given us in launching this platform."

STACK Basic Training will provide fit and competent young athletes with the resources they need to understand and prepare for the challenges they will face if they choose to join the military. Besides supporting the young men and women who serve, or will serve, our country, the site also offers a wealth of instructive articles and videos of interest to active people of any age, especially those who want to get in shape and boost their general strength, conditioning and fitness levels.

"Military fitness changed my life," said U.S. Master Fitness & Resilience Trainer Ken Weichert. "I was an All-American athlete in high school, but I broke my back in the end zone of a state championship football game my senior year. My opportunity to play college football ended in one bad tackle; but it didn't stop me from discovering a life of resilience and a great career. Military basic training rebuilt my core strength, and I have not had back problems since."

Selected articles from STACK Basic Training will be published in STACK Magazine. The entire library of military training content is available online at http://basictraining.stack.com.
